Earlier this year Clapham Studio Hire regular Radu Palicica photographed modal, turned artist Aida Emelyanova in our studio in a series of provocative images to challenge the objectification of women.
The exhibition, I Do Whatever You Animals Do, is now on display at Debut Contemporary in Notting Hill, London, and last week the Daily Mail picked up on the story.
Aida, who has previously trained as an actor at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts before completing an art degree at the Chelsea College of Art & Design, uses installations and canvases to create her artwork and does not retouch any of the images.
The mother said she was shocked when she realised her two young daughters were already aware of body image and weight loss, despite her never addressing these issues around them.
‘I was shocked at how even children get affected by that. I want to bring across the message that it is so hard to be a woman because of the pressure we are under, but it is about how you feel inside.
‘You can never escape yourself and can still be deeply unhappy no matter what your size but if you feel good, that shines through and you look good.”
